ICS/SCADA Engineer
San Antonio, TX
About the role
G6 Cyber Solutions is looking for an ICS/SCADA Engineer to support a Department of Defense customer's operational technology (OT) and industrial control systems work. The environment combines real field hardware with virtualized and simulated OT components that reflect real-world industrial control systems. You'll help design, configure, and secure those systems, and help find and fix the weaknesses in them. This role suits a hands-on problem solver who likes working across hardware, software, and networks on a small, fast-moving team.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and maintain physical and virtual OT/ICS environments that mirror power, water, and other critical infrastructure systems.
- Research threats to PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, and SCADA/HMI systems, and develop and test mitigations for the vulnerabilities you find.
- Plan and run tests, collect and analyze data, and write up the approach, results, and recommendations.
- Prototype new OT/ICS capabilities and integrate them into existing environments to keep them current and realistic.
- Work alongside government, industry, and utility partners on configuration, testing, and shared research.
- Travel occasionally to partner sites and ranges (up to about 25%).
What you bring
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience or academic research in ICS/SCADA, OT networking, or critical infrastructure security.
- Programming experience in C, C++, Python, or Java.
- Experience programming and configuring PLC, RTU, and IED hardware, and building or supporting SCADA/HMI systems.
- Working knowledge of industrial protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 61850, EtherNet/IP, SEL, and OPC.
- Comfort with Windows, Linux, and real-time operating systems such as VxWorks.
- Experience performing threat and vulnerability analysis on ICS/SCADA environments.
- Ability to read and update technical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams in CAD tools.
- Experience virtualizing OT components to model real-world infrastructure.
Nice to have
- Operational time in electric power, water, energy, transportation, or manufacturing environments.
- A master's degree in a related field.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Industrial Engineering (an ICS/SCADA or robotics focus is a plus). Other STEM degrees paired with relevant experience will be considered.
How you'll work
- You set your own plan, pick up new hardware and tools quickly, and stay steady when deadlines get tight.
- You're equally comfortable on a team effort or owning a project yourself.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
